What to do in a leak
While help is on the way:
- Turn off the water at your stopcock - usually under the kitchen sink or where the water main enters the house.
- Switch off your heating and water heating, including any immersion heater.
- Keep clear of electrics - if water is near sockets, lights or the consumer unit, turn off the electricity at the mains if it's safe to do so.
- Open your cold taps to drain water from the pipes, and catch drips with towels and buckets.

Do you charge a call-out fee?
We'll always explain any call-out or visit charge before we attend, so there are no surprises.

Can you come out the same day?
For urgent problems we'll do our best to get to you as quickly as possible. Call us and we'll let you know when we can be with you.

How does your pricing work?
For urgent repairs we charge a call-out that covers the first part of the visit, then an hourly rate plus parts after that. You get both figures when you call, before we come out, so nothing on the invoice is a surprise. If a job looks like it will run longer than expected, we tell you while we are there rather than afterwards. Quotes for planned work, such as a new cylinder or a bathroom, are free and come with a fixed price.
Do you work evenings and weekends?
Our normal hours are weekdays, and we cover genuine emergencies outside those where we can. Call us and we will tell you straight away whether we can get to you, when, and what it will cost. We would rather be honest on the phone than leave you waiting for someone who is not coming.
What should I do while I wait for a plumber?
Find your stopcock, usually under the kitchen sink or near the front door, and turn the water off. If water is anywhere near electrics, turn the power off at the consumer unit too. Put a bucket under the leak, open the taps downstairs to drain the system, and if the leak is on your heating, switch the boiler off. Then call us.
Is your plumbing work guaranteed?
Yes. Our workmanship is guaranteed, and the terms are set out in writing with your quote so you know exactly what is covered before we start. Parts and appliances carry their manufacturer's warranty on top of that, and we register those for you where registration is needed.
Can you fix a leak if we cannot find where it is coming from?
Yes. Leaks under floors, behind walls and in buried heating pipework are common in older Cotswold properties, and the damp patch is rarely above the leak. We trace it first, tell you what is involved in getting to it, and agree the work with you before we lift anything.
Do you work on private water supplies and pressure problems?
Yes. Low pressure, failing pumps and the quirks of private supplies and boreholes come up regularly in the villages we cover. We diagnose where the pressure is actually being lost rather than just fitting a pump and hoping.
