A Cotswold Heating & Renewables branded boiler fitted in a cupboard with new copper pipework

One of the most-asked questions we get is simply: how much is this going to cost? The honest answer is that boiler prices vary considerably, but here’s what actually drives the number on your quote.

What affects the price

The type of job makes the biggest difference:

  • Combi boiler replacement (like-for-like): usually the simplest job, since no cylinder or tank work is normally needed
  • System or regular boiler replacement: a similar amount of work, but more if the hot water cylinder also needs replacing
  • Moving a boiler to a new location, or converting from a regular boiler to a combi, adds cost for extra pipework, flueing and often electrical work

Every home is different, so the details below can change the price significantly.

The details that change your quote

  • Boiler brand and output size – a higher-output boiler for a larger home with more bathrooms costs more than a smaller unit for a flat
  • Where the boiler is going – a straightforward swap in the same spot is cheaper than relocating it to a new room
  • Flue length and route – a longer or more complex flue run adds labour and materials
  • Condensate pipe work – older installations sometimes need this bringing up to current standards
  • Additional parts – a new filter, thermostat, or power flush to clear old sludge from the system all add to the total
  • Access and disruption – tight lofts, awkward airing cupboards or listed building considerations can extend the job

Why we always quote on-site, not over the phone

A phone estimate can only ever be a rough guide, because so much depends on what our engineer actually finds when they look at your current setup. We provide a fixed, no-obligation quote after a site visit, so you know exactly what you’re paying and why, with nothing hidden and no surprises on the invoice.

Frequently asked questions

Is it cheaper to repair my old boiler than replace it?

Usually yes for a single repair, but the calculation changes once a boiler is past about twelve years, parts are getting harder to source, or you are calling someone out more than once a winter. The honest test is what you would spend over the next three years, not what you would spend today.

Does a combi cost less to fit than a system boiler?

The boiler itself is usually cheaper and there is no cylinder, so a straight combi swap is typically the lowest cost option. Converting from a system or regular boiler to a combi is a different job, with pipework changes and tank removal, and costs more than either like-for-like swap.

Why do quotes vary so much for the same boiler?

Because the boiler is often the smaller part of the price. Flue work, pipework changes, where the boiler is going, system cleaning and the warranty length all move the figure. A quote that looks unusually low is usually leaving something out, so compare what is included rather than the headline number.
